2015 Made In Carolina’s Film Project

Made In Carolinas is the 6th film contest of it’s kind. This year we will also be implementing a student category. See below for Rules and Regulations for both categories:

Contest Rules

The Purpose:

  • Each film will be a short film as well as a silent film. Filmmakers must convey the idea without any verbal or written communications. The idea of the film is to convey the film using no words. You may include music (instrumental, no lyrics) and sounds (such as birds chirping, firetrucks, etc).

Entry Fees:

$15 entry fee for CFC yearly members.




 

$ 40 entry fee for non-members (This includes a yearly membership to Carolina Film Community). Yearly memberships to CFC are only $25.  To learn how to become a yearly member, visit our website at www.carolinafilmcommunity.com




Technical:

  • All films must be an original work created for the Made In Carolinas 2015 Film Project
  • At least 75% of the Film must be shot within NC or SC
  • At least 90% of the film and all images used in the film must have been filmed between the starting dates of June 9th, 2015 and August 4, 2015
  • Film must be at least 3 minutes and no longer than 5 minutes long – not including  credits
  • Films must be submitted through a digital file (.MOV, .MPG, .WMV, or .AVI) to juli@carolinafilmcommunity.com
  • All films must be a silent film. Feel free to reach out to a CFC representative to ensure your film complies with this requirement.
  • All films must contain the following PROP: a drawing of a flower
  • Films may not be screened or shared publicly before they are officially collected and released by CFC.
  • Only twenty (20) films will be accepted into the Made In Carolinas Film Project. If more than 20 films are submitted, they will be reviewed by an impartial party in which he/she will choose the 20 films that are to proceed in the contest.
  • CFC retains the rights to publicly screen any films submitted in to the Made In Carolinas 2015 Film Project at any time as a means to promote CFC and CFC Film Contests, as well as the filmmaker.
  • Entries are due by August 4th, 2015.
  • All entries are subject to review by a leader of CFC and can be denied entry into the contest. (Should the entry be denied entrance, fees will be refunded in full)

 

STUDENT CATEGORY

Contest Rules

  • A copy of valid student I.D. must be emailed to juli@carolinafilmcommunity.com (If you do not have a student I.D., please provide another form of proof that you are a current student)
  • At least 90% of the film and all images used in the film must be created no earlier than June 9th, 2015.
  • Film must be at least 3 minutes and no longer than 5 minutes long – not including  credits
  • Films must be submitted through a digital file (.MOV, .MPG, .WMV, or .AVI) to juli@carolinafilmcommunity.com
  • All films must be a silent film. Feel free to reach out to a CFC representative to ensure your film complies with this requirement.
  • All films must contain the following prop: a drawing of a flower

FAQ regarding the contest:

1. Can we use writing to communicate in the film? (i.e. title cards, etc)?
No, there can be no writing to communicate in the films. The idea of the films is to convey the idea using no words.

2. Can we have sounds included in the film? (i.e. birds chirping, firetrucks, etc)
Yes, you can use other sounds to be included in the film as well as music.

3. Can the music in the film have lyrics?
No, the music in the film should be solely instrumental. No lyrics should be heard.
